The adoption fees are usually $80-$100 for dogs, and $45 for cats. A $50 deposit is required on pets that have not been spayed or neutered. The prices/deposit are subject to change.
It is Iowa Law that all pets adopted from shelters are to be spayed/neutered. All animals 6 months or older are already fixed prior to adoption, but if you happen to adopt one that has not yet been spayed or neutered (puppy or kitten under 6 months) then you are required by law to get that animal spayed/neutered. We will have you sign a spay/neuter contract and ask for a $50 deposit on top of the adoption fee. You will get your $50 returned to you as soon as you provide written proof from your veterinarian that the pet has been surgically altered.
All animals adopted from the Humane Society of North Central Iowa will receive a free health exam from a number of veterinarians in the area. The free health is exam must be done within 72 hours of adoption. In the case that your veterinarian feels that the pet you adopted is not in good health, you may return the animal for a full refund. Otherwise, refunds are given only under special circumstances.
Please note, we do not adopt animals that are intended to be outside pets only. Our animals are to be adopted as household companions and kept as such, as stated in our adoption contract.
We reserve the right to refuse adoptions.
