Almost Home . .
.
. . . until
they’re all home for good!
Nearly 35 years ago, the Webster County
Humane Society established its first animal shelter in small building
designed to be an auto body shop, a temporary site to be used until a
better facility could be found. Today, the homeless animals served by
the Humane Society of North Central Iowa are still sheltered there.
At long
last, the time has come for a new facility, the Almost Home Adoption
and Education Center, which will offer safety, compassion and
socialization skills for homeless animals, and offer residents of our
area a welcoming place to interact with the animals, learn more about
the responsibilities of pet ownership and choose a new forever friend
to join their family.
The Almost
Home Adoption and Education Center will be built on a six-acre site in
Fort Dodge, just west of Menard’s, off South 32nd Street.
Designed to serve our community now and into the future, the building
provides
•
Space for 98 dogs and 156 cats;
•
Large, bright indoor-outdoor kennels for dogs;
•
Cat colonies facing a full wall of windows for lying in the sun;
•
A Come. Sit. Stay. Training Center with ample space for obedience
classes and educational opportunities for families and their pets;
•
On-site veterinary clinic, and
•
A “Bark Park” where anyone can visit, walk a shelter dog
and enjoy the benefits of fresh air, exercise and canine companionship.
Most
importantly, the Almost Home Adoption and Education Center will more
than double our capacity for housing homeless animals, allowing the
Humane Society of North Central Iowa to serve some 2,000 animals per
year. We are proud that we do not euthanize any animal to make
room for any other, but that also means we are severely limited in our
ability to provide shelter to many of the animals abandoned in our
community each year.
However,
we can’t build it without your help! If you would like to learn
more about how you can contribute to “Almost Home” please

What a
bow-wow-wonderful idea!

Naming
Opportunities
You can help so many abandoned pets be “Almost Home” by
choosing a naming opportunity or by purchasing a paver or a
ceramic picture tile to be displayed at the new Center.
Help pave the way
for our new “Almost Home” Adoption & Education Center
and make a lasting impression that will be part of the Center’s
future forever.
Do you or your
organization want to acknowledge your love for animals and support our
community?
Do you have a
friend or relative who instilled in you a love of animals?
Do you want to
remember a very special pet?
You can honor a
loved one, your family, your class or club or your favorite pet, or
remember a loved one who has passed away by having their name
inscribed in a paver or their picture commemorated in ceramic tile.
Pavers will line
the sidewalk leading into the building and tiles will be laid inside
the new “Almost Home” Adoption & Education Center where
they will enjoyed for generations to come.
Commemorative
pavers are $100 each.
Full color
4” square picture tiles are $250 each.
