Keep Your Pet

Needs a Farm/Needs Room to Run

This excuse really has no valid argument. Sure, every dog would love to have unlimited space to run and play in, BUT giving up your pet because you think it needs to live on a farm, is unfair to the dog. We don't have people who live on farms lining up to adopt our pets at the shelter. In most instances your dog will end up living in town and if he is lucky he will have a decent sized fenced in yard but many people in town tether their pets on a chain or cable to let their dogs do their business. Some owners are more dedicated and take them on daily walks. We do not screen the homes based on how big their yard is, so keep that in mind before surrendering your dog. You may think more space is the "best" thing for him, but please realize, there is zero guarantee that he will end up with room to run.

Letting dogs run loose, even on farms can be very dangerous. A dog can take off and get lost, hit by a car, shot, or hurt or killed by another animal. All dogs, even dogs on farms should be in a fenced yard for their own safety. I know this is not the norm for people in the country, but its the safest thing for the dog.

If you want your dog to get the exercise he needs, take him on daily walks, play with him in your own yard, find activities to do together. Most of all your dog just wants to be with you. Dogs are most loyal and loving creatures that crave human companionship. If he had the choice, he would choose to remain at your side. You made a commitment when you adopted him. Honor that by giving him a happy, loving home for life.
