Keep Your Pet
New Baby
Its very common for people to give up their pets when they are expecting or have a new baby in the house. Sadly, many people believe the old wives' tale that cats will steal the baby's breath. This tale goes back hundreds of years to a time when cats were associated with witchcraft and evil spirits. It is anatomically impossible for a cat or other animal to suffocate a baby by sealing the baby's mouth with its own.
Pets should be surpervised around small children and introduced gradually to a new baby. You should also keep cats (just as you should keep other items, like blankets and plush toys) out of your baby's crib or bassinet.
