We
have limited space for cats and dogs. Since we are a "no-kill" shelter,
we cannot take every animal that is in need. When an animal comes to
the shelter, it will remain there until it is adopted. Sometimes that
can take months for an animal to find a home and we have had several
animals stay with us for up to a year or more. Please keep in mind
before you surrender a pet to us, be sure that you have tried your best
at making the situation work and/or attempted to find the animal a good
home yourself. Please do avoid placing "Free to Good Home Ads". Click here to see why.
Before
surrendering, take a look at our Keep Your Pet section. We offer advice
on ways to make the situation work so you can hopefully keep you pet.
If
you have a pet you need to surrender, please call in advance to see if
we have the space. If we do not, please be patient. If we do not have
an open cage, there is nothing we can do about it. We are more than
happy to put you on our waiting list and we also recommend calling
frequently to check if space is available.
Right now we have a long waiting list for cats. Please spay &
neuter your pets, to help us combat this pet overpopulation problem. If
more people would spay/neuter, ther ewould be less homeless animals.
Please do not get upset with us if we do not have romm for your pet. It
is not our fault. We wish we could take in every animal in need, but we
are required to follow state laws, if we wish to keep our soors open.
Our big dogs are the most challenging to adopt out, so space for large
dogs is very limited. We usually have room for small dogs.
We will take in small animals such as rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, birds, and reptiles.
We do require a surrender fee when you bring an animal. We must do this
to help with the cost of caring for the animal during it's stay. We are
a non-profit shelter and we depend on donations to continue to care for
animals. Surrender fees vary depending on the age, size, and health of
animal.
If we do not have room for your pet you can check with other shelters
in Iowa. For a list of Iowa shelter, visit Petfinder. Click on Shelters
& Rescue Groups.
For a donation we will consider helping you out and listing you pet on
Petfinder as a "Courtesy Listing". Your pet MUST be spayed or neutered
before we will considerlisting your pet. If you have a litter of
puppies or kittens they and their mother will need to be spayed neutered. We
absolutely will not help anyone contribute to the pet over population.
If you are interested in a low cost way to get the mom and the puppies
spayed and neutered please contact us for more information.
Additionally, we require you to fill out our Courtesy Listing
Questionnaire. We reserve the right to refuse to list your pet.
